This article describes an issue for caption bar buttons in Windows 8.1, Windows RT 8.1, or Windows Server 2012 R2. A hotfix is available to resolve this issue. The hotfix has a prerequisite.

Symptoms

Caption bar buttons, such as Minimize, Maximize, and Close, disappear or display incorrectly in windows that have a custom window region in Windows 8.1, Windows RT 8.1, and Windows Server 2012 R2.

Resolution

To resolve the issue, install the hotfix that is described in this article.

Hotfix information

A supported hotfix is available from Microsoft. However, this hotfix is intended to correct only the problem that described in this article. Apply this hotfix only to systems that are experiencing the problem described in this article. This hotfix might receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, we recommend that you wait for the next software update that contains this hotfix.

Prerequisites
