OneDrive folder roams to another computer unexpectedly in Windows 8 and Windows 8.1

View products that this article applies to.

Symptoms

Consider the following scenario:
  • You have Roaming User Profile configured for a user in a domain.
  • The user logs on to a Windows 8 or Windows 8.1-based computer.
  • The user installs or configures OneDrive Desktop client on the computer.
  • The user logs on to another computer in the domain.
In this scenario, the OneDrive file is roamed to the computer even when the computer does not have OneDrive Desktop client installed or configured.

Note: Do not use the same roaming user profiles to log on to Windows 8 and Windows 8.1 Computers. Roaming user profiles in Windows 8.1 or Windows Server 2012 R2 are incompatible with roaming user profiles in earlier versions of Windows.

Similarly, roaming user profiles on Windows 8-based or Windows Server 2012-based computers are incompatible with roaming user profiles in other versions of Windows.
