I/O error 0xC0000427 when you perform initial backup in Data Protection Manager to a fully deduplicated .vhdx file

Symptoms

Consider the following scenario:
  • You have a Hyper-V host on a volume that is deduplicated.
  • The deduplicated volume contains one or more virtual hard disk (.vhdx) files.
  • You perform an initial backup in Data Protection Manager to a fully deduplicated .vhdx file.

In this scenario, the .vhdx file reaches maximum fragmentation size, and I/O error 0xC0000427 occurs.

Resolution

Hotfix information

Windows 8.1 and Windows Server 2012 R2 file information and notes

Important Windows 8.1 and Windows Server 2012 R2 hotfixes are included in the same packages. However, only "Windows 8.1" is listed on the Hotfix Request page.
