You cannot switch between two languages when you type on the file explorer in Windows 8.1 or Windows Server 2012 R2

Symptoms

Consider the following scenario:

  • You have a computer that is running Windows RT 8.1, Window 8.1, or Windows Server 2012 R2.
  • You go to the Advanced settings window under the Language settings in the Control Panel, and then select the Let me set a different input method for each app window option.
  • You have at least 2 input languages configured on the computer.
  • You try to type characters by using an input method that is not default in the search bar in the file explorer and delete a character.
In this scenario, you can only type English and cannot switch between the languages.

Resolution

Update information

To resolve this issue, install update rollup 2955164. For more information about how to obtain this update rollup package, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

Workaround

To work around this issue switch the language order or remove the non-English language and add it back under the Language settings.
