SQL Server cannot start from a domain account after the VM restarts in Windows 8.1 or Windows Server 2012 R2

This article describes an issue when the SQL Server start in Windows RT 8.1, Windows 8.1, Windows Server 2012 R2. The issue is resolved in update rollup 2955164 for Windows 8.1 or Windows Server 2012 R2 , or in hotfix 2956041 that is described in this article and has a prerequisite.

Cause

This issue occurs because of an authentication issue. The network is unavailable when the SQL Server tries to start after the Virtual Machine (VM) restarts in Microsoft Azure that is running on a Windows RT 8.1, Windows 8.1, or Windows Server 2012 R2-based computer.

Resolution

To resolve this issue, install update rollup 2955164, or install the hotfix that is described in this article.
