Touch is difficult in Windows Media Player on a high-resolution monitor

Symptoms

When you use a high-resolution (high-DPI) touch-enabled monitor, you may have problems reading the text of certain areas within Windows Media Player. These areas include the Play, Burn, and Sync tabs. You may also have problems using some smaller buttons because of their size.

Cause

Windows Media Player was intended to be used with certain resolutions and monitor sizes. Some sections of Windows Media Player are assumed to have a minimum number of pixels. A combination of high resolution and small monitor size may result in insufficient area to correctly display all text if those sections of Windows Media Player are set to a specific size.

Workaround

To work around this issue, do one of the following:
  • Windows Store apps are designed to be used with touch and high-resolution monitors, so use an app such as Music instead of Windows Media Player.
  • Use the keyboard or mouse to control Windows Media Player instead of using touch.
