Nodes are broken in cluster RHS upon file backchannel invalidation in Windows Server 2012 R2

View products that this article applies to.

Symptoms

The article describes an update that is available for a Windows Server 2012 R2 cluster to resolve the following issues:
  • The cluster only allows one CLUSCTL to be sent per resource type at one time. However, file and session invalidation are executed by CLUSCTL to the same resource type. Because there is a dependency between these two kinds of invalidation, a system deadlock occurs.
  • The Tasks table uses the node ID as a bucket ID instead of hashing the node ID. If a cluster is larger than eight nodes or the number of buckets, invalidation may fail on the larger-numbered node.
