Lync 2013 displays un-encoded texts in a toast notification or an instant message sent to another messaging client

Symptoms

In Microsoft Lync 2013, you may see the "<," ">," "&," "'," ""," characters appear as un-encoded texts, such as "&lt," "&gt," "&amp," "&apos," "&quot." The un-encoded texts appear in the following situations:
  • You receive a toast notification of an instant message conversation.
  • You send an instant message to another messaging client such as Skype.
