Consider the following scenario:
In this scenario, you cannot obtain the correct alias recordset in future queries of that DNS resource record for a specific time period. Additionally, after the time period expires, you find that you still cannot perform a correct CNAME resource recordset query.
Note This behavior occurs because the CNAME Time to Live (TTL) setting is returned from the previous failed recursive lookup.
- You have a computer that is running Windows 8.1 or Windows Server 2012 R2.
- You try to perform a Domain Name System (DNS) query from the computer.
- You find that an incomplete alias (CNAME) resource recordset is returned if the DNS recursive lookup fails. For example, the recordset may be missing the A/AAAA record.
In this scenario, you cannot obtain the correct alias recordset in future queries of that DNS resource record for a specific time period. Additionally, after the time period expires, you find that you still cannot perform a correct CNAME resource recordset query.
