Symptoms

When the Active Directory Connector (ADC) replicates to and from Microsoft Exchange Server 5.5 and Microsoft Windows 2000 Advanced Server Active Directory, the ADC may delete a mailbox from the Exchange Server 5.5 directory and replace that mailbox with a custom recipient, even if deletions are disabled.

This problem occurs when you match an Exchange Server 5.5 mailbox to a Windows 2000 Active Directory user and then remove all of the mail attributes from the Active Directory user.

Cause

This problem occurs because the ADC detects the match between the mailbox and Active Directory user when the ADC starts, and the ADC adds several attributes to the Active Directory user. Then the ADC tries to replicate from Exchange Server. Because only a few attributes have been added to the Active Directory user, the ADC removes the mailbox and creates a custom recipient in the mailbox's place.
