Animated gif images do not animate on Xbox Music sites in Internet Explorer 11

Symptoms

When you go to an Xbox Music site in Internet Explorer 11, animated gif images do not animate as expected. For example, when you click the play button on an artist, some frame from the gif image is rendered but remains frozen until the image is replaced by the album art.
