0xE2003053 error when applications that use StarForce protection start in Windows 8.1

Symptoms

When you try to start an application that uses StartForce protection on Windows 8.1, you receive the following error message:
Internal error (error code: 0xE2003053)
Notes
  • This compatibility issue occurs when the application implement StarForce protection that is released before February 2014.
  • The application runs correctly on Windows 8.
