Summary

Microsoft Visual Studio Team Foundation Server (TFS) 2010 diagnostic collector enables the TFS Job Agent tracing. This tool collects diagnostic information such as trace logs for analysis. This information is useful for troubleshooting a broad class of TFS issues.

This collector supports TFS 2010 and later versions of TFS.

How to enable the TFS Job Agent tracing

TFS JobAgent Diagnostic Collector follows these steps to change the TFSJobAgent.exe.config file:
  1. The collector creates a backup of the TFSJobAgent.exe.config to %temp% under the "TFSJobAgent" folder. TFSJobAgent.exe.config is located in the following folder:
    %ProgramFiles%\Microsoft Team Foundation Server 1x.0\Application Tier\TFSJobAgent

    Note%temp% is the profile of the user who is running the diagnostics tool.
  2. The collector stops the TFSJobAgent service, adds the JobAgent tracing, and then restarts the TFSJobAgent service. 
    Note If there is a failure to stop or start the TFSJobAgent service, these steps will be undone and tracing will not be enabled.
  3. As soon as the tracing is turned on, you can reproduce an issue to collect information about it.
  4. After you reproduce the issue, the collector restores the TFSJobAgent.exe.config to its original state (from the backup in step 1), and then restart your TFSJobAgent service.
