Summary

This article describes update for Microsoft Silverlight 5 that is dated at March 11, 2014. Silverlight is a cross-browser, multi-environment plug-in that delivers the next generation of Microsoft .NET-based media experiences and rich interactive applications for the web.

This update is an upgrade to the earlier versions of Silverlight. If your computer does not have Silverlight installed, you can obtain the installer from Microsoft Update or Windows Server Update Services (WSUS).

This update includes functional, performance, reliability, and security improvements. Additionally, this update is backward-compatible with the web applications that were created by using earlier versions of Silverlight. Issue

Improvement 1

This update enables Silverlight to fully interoperate with the desktop mode of Internet Explorer 11 in Windows 8.1. After the update is installed, Silverlight can run in Enhanced Protected Mode and may report unavailable features to you.

Improvement 2

This update enables Silverlight to report unavailable features to you when you use Silverlight applications on Safari 7 browsers on a Macintosh computer that is running Mac OS X 10.9 Mavericks. After the update is installed, Silverlight may report unavailable features to you when you run Silverlight applications in the Safari Sandbox.
