Sizes of SMB event logs are too small in Windows 8.1 and Windows Server 2012 R2

View products that this article applies to.

Symptoms

The sizes of the following server message block (SMB) event logs are too small in Windows 8.1 and Windows Server 2012 R2:
  • In SMB Client, the size of the Operational log is only 1 megabyte (MB). This limits the log to approximately 1,700 events.
This is probably not enough for a compute cluster.
  • In SMB Server, the sizes of the Operational, Connectivity, and Security logs are each only 1 MB. This limits the logs to approximately 1,700 events.
This is probably not enough to diagnose critical issues on a storage cluster.
