Memory leak occurs during a video call or when you rest the mouse pointer on a video icon in Lync 2013

Symptoms

Assume that you install Microsoft Office 2013 Service Pack 1 (SP1) or the November, 2013 update for Lync 2013 on a computer. The computer uses accelerated H.264 video encoding based on Intel chipsets that have HD Graphics 2000 or a later version. Then, you make a video call or you rest the mouse pointer on a video icon in Lync 2013. In this situation, at least 60 megabytes (MB) of memory will leak in Lync 2013. The memory leak will persist until you restart Lync 2013.

Cause

This issue occurs because the Hardware Media Foundation Transform (HMFT)-related objects are not freed in each capability query. Additionally, Lync 2013 creates an encoder instance that starts another query when you rest the mouse pointer on a video icon.

Resolution

To resolve this issue, install the following cumulative update:

To determine whether your computer may be encountering this issue, run dxdiag to start the DirectX Diagnostic Tool, and then click the Display tab within the tool. Check the Name of your display card. The following screenshot is an example of what you might see:
