"0x133", "0x101" Stop error or system stops responding during start

Symptoms

When you start a computer that is running Windows 8 or Windows Server 2012, the system may stop responding, or you may receive a Stop error message that resembles the following:
STOP: 0x00000133 (parameter1, parameter2, parameter3, parameter4)
STOP: 0x00000101 (parameter1, parameter2, parameter3, parameter4)
Notes
  • The Stop error 0x00000133 describes a DPC_WATCHDOG_VIOLATION issue and the Stop error 0x00000101 describes a CLOCK_WATCHDOG_TIMEOUT issue.
  • The parameters in this Stop error message vary, depending on the configuration of the computer.
  • Not all "Stop 0x00000133" and "Stop 0x00000101" errors are caused by this issue.

Cause

This issue occurs because of a bug in NT kernel that may sometimes enter an infinite loop.

Resolution

Hotfix information

A supported hotfix is available from Microsoft. However, this hotfix is intended to correct only the problem that is described in this article. Apply this hotfix only to systems that are experiencing this specific problem.
