You receive a "You are not authorized to view this page" error message when you browse to a site created in a Subweb that is based on SharePoint Team Services

Symptoms

When you create a Web site in a subweb that is based on SharePoint Team Services from Microsoft, and then locate the site, you may receive the following error message:
You are not authorized to view this page.
You might not have permission to view this directory or page using the credentials you supplied.

Cause

This problem may occur if the list of default documents for the subweb does not include Default.htm.

Resolution

To resolve this problem, add Default.htm to the list of default documents in the subweb's properties. To do this, follow these steps:
  1. Click Start, point to Programs, point to Administrative Tools, and then click Internet Services Manager.
  2. Expand the Server folder, and then expand the Default Web Site folder.
  3. Right-click the subweb, and then click Properties on the menu that appears.
  4. Click the Documents tab. Click Add and type Default.htm. Click OK twice.
