Stop error in a distributed file service (DFS) environment in Windows

Symptoms

Assume that you have a Distributed File Service (DFS) environment. The DFS client runs Windows 8.1, Windows Server 2012 R2, Windows 8, or Windows Server 2012. In this situation, the DFS client crashes randomly, and you receive Stop error 0x0000007E or 0x0000003B.

Resolution

To resolve this issue in Windows 8.1 and Windows Server 2012 R2, install update rollup 2919355.
To resolve this issue in Windows 8 and Windows Server 2012, install update rollup 2928678, or install the hotfix that is described in this article.

Hotfix information for Windows 8 and Windows Server 2012

A supported hotfix is available from Microsoft. However, this hotfix is intended to correct only the problem that is described in this article. Apply this hotfix only to systems that are experiencing this specific problem.
