Memory usage in IIS Advanced Logging increases when filtering is used for IIS 7.0 and IIS 7.5

Symptoms

Log Filtering in Internet Information Services (IIS) Advanced Logging lets users capture only the data that they are interested in. If this feature is enabled for IIS 7.0 or IIS 7.5, the memory usage of the Application Pool increases over time.

This problem occurs because of an issue in the Advanced Logging module.

Resolution

Hotfix information

To resolve this problem, install the following hotfix from the Microsoft Download Center:

Prerequisites

You must have IIS 7.0 or IIS 7.5 and the Advanced Logging module 1.0 installed on one of the following operating systems to apply this hotfix:
  • Windows 7
  • Windows Server 2008 R2
  • Windows Vista
  • Windows Server 2008
  • Windows Web Server 2008
  • Windows Web Server 2008 R2

Restart information

You do not have to restart the computer after you apply this hotfix.

Replacement information

This hotfix does not replace a previously released hotfix.

File information

The English version of this hotfix has the file attributes (or later file attributes) that are listed in the following table. The dates and times for these files are listed in Coordinated Universal Time (UTC). When you view the file information, it is converted to local time. Workaround

To work around this problem, take one of the following actions:
  • To continue to use Advanced Logging, disable any existing logging filters.
  • Disable Advanced Logging.
  • Upgrade to Microsoft Internet Information Services 8.5. The most-used Advanced Logging module features have been added to IIS 8.5.
