Tables, bullets, or numbers in reviewing pane are not printed in Word

Symptoms

When you print a Word document that you inserted a comment into, and there are tables, bulleted items, or numbered items in the reviewing pane, the tables, bullets, or numbers are not printed.

Any other text in the reviewing pane is printed as expected.

Cause

This behavior can occur when both of the following are true:

  • You print the document by clicking Document showing markup in the Print what box in the Print dialog box.
  • You insert a table or a bulleted or numbered list onto the comment balloon.

This makes the table and list appear in the reviewing pane.

Resolution

To work around this behavior, you can print all of the comment details as a separate document. To do this, follow these steps:

  1. On the File menu, click Print.
  2. In the Print dialog box, click List of markup in the Print what box, and then click OK.

Status

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.
