DPI scaling is changed after resuming from sleep state (S3) in Windows 8.1

View products that this article applies to.

Symptoms

Consider the following scenario:

  • You have a Windows 8.1 system.
  • The system has a feature that allows the system to wake up periodically during sleep state (S3) to update content from applications or perform background tasks.
  • The system is not configured with 100% DPI.
  • You put the system into sleep state (S3.)

In this scenario, after the system resumes from sleep state, the display may be reset to 100% DPI.

Cause

After the system resumes from sleep state, the Desktop Window Manager (DWM) does not receive a DPI change notification. This results in the DPI scaling to remain at 100% instead of what was previously set.
