Error message when you install Lync 2013 SDK on a computer that is running Visual Studio 2013


Symptoms

Assume that you install Microsoft Visual Studio 2013 on a computer that does not have an earlier version of Visual Studio installed. Then, you try to install Lync 2013 Software Development Kit (SDK) on the computer. In this situation, the installation process of Lync 2013 SDK is blocked. Additionally, you receive the following error message:
Microsoft Visual Studio 2010 SP1 or higher not found. Go here to download and install: http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkID=248582

Cause

This issue occurs because Lync 2013 SDK cannot detect the installation information of Visual Studio 2013.

Resolution

To resolve this issue, install the following cumulative update:

More Information

After you install the cumulative update, you must register the Lync WPF Application templates and theLync Silverlight Application templates in Visual Studio 2013. To register the templates, follow these steps:
  1. Open the Visual Studio Command Prompt window as an administrator.
  2. Run the following command in the window:
    Devenv.exe /InstallVSTemplates
