“Configuration Error” for Network Adapter property when you use Failover Clustering in Windows Server 2012 R2

Symptoms

When an offline virtual machine is Quick Migrated, any virtual network adapters that were connected on the source host continue to point to the switches on the source host until the virtual machine is started. Therefore, the network adapters appear to be in a "Configuration Error" state in the UI.

Cause

The configuration of the network adapter settings is not updated until the virtual machine is brought into an online state on the target node.

Resolution

You can safely ignore this error. When the virtual machine is brought online, the adapter property is updated, and this clears the error.
