You cannot download a file to a remote file share in Internet Explorer 10

Symptoms

Assume that you try to download a file to a remote file share by using Windows Internet Explorer 10. When the download progress is close to 100 percent complete, the download operation fails, and you receive an error message that resembles the following:

File name
couldn't be downloaded

Additionally, the file is saved with a .partial suffix and remains in the download folder on the network.

Note If you click Retry to redownload the file after this issue occurs, the system does not perform any operations.

To resolve this issue, install the most recent cumulative security update for Internet Explorer. To do this, go to Microsoft Update.
