Active window changes after you close an authentication dialog box in Internet Explorer 10 or Internet Explorer 11

Symptoms

Consider the following scenario:
  • You run Windows Internet Explorer 10 or Internet Explorer 11 on one of the following operating systems:
    • Windows 8.1
    • Windows Server 2012 R2
    • Windows 8
    • Windows Server 2012
    • Windows 7
  • You have several other windows opened on the computer.
  • You go to a webpage that requires authentication in Internet Explorer 10 or Internet Explorer 11.
  • You close the authentication dialog box.
In this scenario, a different window becomes the active window.

Note The expected behavior is that the Internet Explorer window is the active window after you close the authentication dialog box.

To resolve this issue, install the most recent cumulative security update for Internet Explorer. To do this, go to Microsoft Update.
