Server Work Queues performance object counters become abnormally high in Windows Server 2008 R2

Consider the following scenario:

• You have a server that is running File Services for Windows Server 2008 R2.
• You monitor the counters of the Server Work Queues performance object in Performance Monitor.
• You restart the server service.

In this scenario, the values of the counters become abnormally high, and you may be alerted incorrectly to a potential problem.

Note�This problem does not occur after you restart the server.

This problem occurs because the counters are not initialized during the restart of the server service.

Hotfix information

A supported hotfix is available from Microsoft Support. However, this hotfix is intended to correct only the problem that is described in this article. Apply this hotfix only to systems that are experiencing the problem described in this article. This hotfix might receive additional testing.
