Event ID 1001 is logged when the RTCSrv.exe progress crashes on a Lync Server 2013 Edge server

Symptoms

Assume that you deploy an Edge server in a Microsoft Lync Server 2013 environment.  In this situation, the RTCSrv.exe progress crashes on the Edge server every hour. Additionally, the following events are logged in Event Viewer:Note This issue only occurs when you have lots of federated users or you have deployed the Edge server for a long time. For example, 1000 certificates from federated users are stored in the Edge server.

Cause

This issue occurs because the number of the certificates that are collected and stored from federated users reaches the configured MaxAcceptedCertificatesStored parameter value. Then Lync Server 2013 tries to delete up to 20 percent of the oldest certificates. However, Lync Server 2013 crashes at that time.

Workaround

To work around this issue, use one of the following methods:
  • Delete the redundant certificates by using Microsoft Management Console (MMC).
  • Set the MaxAcceptedCertificatesStored parameter to a high value. For example, set the parameter value to more than 2000 by running the following command in a Lync Server Management Shell:
    Set-CsAccessEdgeConfiguration -MaxAcceptedCertificatesStored  value

To resolve this issue, install the following cumulative update:
