You receive a "Word couldn't send mail because of MAPI failure" error message when you try to send a Word document as an e-mail attachment in Word 2002


Error Message

When you attempt to send a Word document as an e-mail attachment in Word, an error message similar to the following may appear:
Word couldn't send mail because of MAPI failure: "Unspecified error".

Resolution

The current MAPI session was closed, and Word is no longer able to connect to that MAPI session

Use one of the following methods to resolve this problem:

Method 1: Restart your MAPI e-mail program

Restart your MAPI e-mail program and then send your document from Word.

Method 2: Save and close the document and Word, and then restart Word

Save and close your document and then quit and restart Word. Word will establishe a new MAPI session, allowing you to send your document.

There is a problem with your fax setup

If you receive this error message when you attempt to send a fax, there may be a problem with the way your fax software is set up.
