Cause

The Windows 8 WLAN AutoConfig service includes changes in the way it handles state transitions, and this particular scenario fails to reset a flag that prevents reconnection to the printer.

Resolution

This problem does not occur on Windows 7 SP1 or Windows 8.1. There is no hotfix available to correct this problem on Windows 8.  However, once the problem occurs, it is possible to work around the problem by stopping and starting the WLAN AutoConfig service before attempting to reconnect to the printer. To do this:

  1. Open an Administrator command prompt.
  2. Enter net stop wlansvc.
  3. Enter net start wlansvc.
