Virtual machines are not enumerated on a Windows Server 2012 R2-based Hyper-V server that is running in a VDI deployment

Symptoms

Consider the following scenario:
  • You have a Windows Server 2012 R2-based Hyper-V server that is running in a Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) deployment environment. The server also has the Remote Desktop Virtualization Host (RD Virtualization Host) role installed.
  • The Virtual Hard Disk (VHD) files and the configuration files of the virtual machines are stored on a Server Message Block (SMB) server. 
  • The Hyper-V server is restarted.  
In this scenario, virtual machines are not enumerated in the Remote Desktop Connection Broker (RD Connection Broker).
