Ifmember causes Error 122

Symptoms

When you run the Ifmember.exe tool from the Microsoft Windows 2000 Resource Kit or the Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Resource Kit, you may receive the following error message:
ifmember: GetTokenInformation failed. Error code returned by system was 122.
This error message may occur if a user is a member of 100 or more groups.

Cause

The Ifmember.exe tool uses a buffer with a static size to make the GetTokenInformation function call. After you apply the hotfix that is described in this article, Ifmember uses dynamic buffers.

Resolution

To resolve this problem, obtain the latest service pack for Windows 2000. For more information, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

The English version of this hotfix has the file attributes (or later file attributes) that are listed in the following table. The dates and times for these files are listed in Coordinated Universal Time (UTC). When you view the file information, it is converted to local time. To find the difference between UTC and local time, use the Time Zone tab in the Date and Time item in Control Panel.

Note The new version of the Ifmember.exe tool is not automatically installed with the Service Pack files. However, if you expand the Service Pack files to a folder or if you have the Service Pack 3 or Service Pack 4 CD, you can use the Expand.exe tool to expand Ifmember.ex_ and then use the Ifmember.exe.

Status

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section. This problem was first corrected in Windows 2000 Service Pack 3.
