Summary

With MPIO SAN configurations on Windows Server 2008, a new path designated as Active/Optimized by the storage array may not be properly set as Active/Optimized if there is already an Active/Optimized path in use for that disk.

More Information

This issue is caused by a failure to check the target-preferred status in the Microsoft DSM. This issue may not occur if a 3rd party DSM is installed, and does not occur in later versions of Windows Server.
