This update provides the latest fixes for Office for Mac 2011. These include the following:
  • Improves functionality in Outlook for Mac.
    This update includes functionality that defaults newly configured Yahoo! Mail accounts to IMAP instead of to POP. This update also includes functionality that defaults newly configured Outlook.com accounts to IMAP instead of to POP.
  • Improves stability in Outlook for Mac.
    This update fixes an issue that causes read receipts always to be sent after you read a message that a read receipt requested. This update includes functionality that lets you decide whether to send a read receipt and to remember your selections (Always Send or Never Send). This update applies to on-premises Microsoft Exchange Server 2007, Exchange Server 2010, Exchange Server 2013 Cumulative Update 3, and Microsoft Exchange Online in Microsoft Office 365. 
  • Improves conversation threading in Outlook for Mac.
    This update includes functionality that uses the In-Reply-To and Reference fields in mail headers to improve conversation threading for the display of conversation views. 
  • Improves the ability of Outlook for Mac to connect to Exchange
    This update fixes an issue that causes Outlook for Mac not to connect to Exchange when Outlook uses certain proxy servers. 
  • Improves functionality in Word for Mac.
    This update fixes an issue that causes a crash when you start Polish Microsoft Word 2011 on OS X Mavericks. 

Prerequisites

Before you install the Office for Mac 2011 14.3.9 update, make sure that you have Office for Mac 2011 14.1.0 or a later version installed on your computer. Also, make sure that the computer is running Mac OS X v10.5.8 or a later version of the Mac OS X operating system.

To verify that the computer meets this prerequisite, click About This Mac on the Apple menu.

To verify that Office for Mac 2011 14.1.0 is installed on your computer, follow these steps:
  1. On the Go menu, click Applications.
  2. Open the Microsoft Office 2011 folder, and then start any Office application. (For example, start Word).
  3. On the application menu, click About <application>.
  4. In the About <application> dialog box, notice the version number that is displayed there. It should be 14.1.0 or a later version number.
