Incorrect paper size is sent from Microsoft Word in n-up scenarios

View products that this article applies to.

Symptoms

Consider the following scenario:

  • You are running a version of Microsoft Word.
  • The print driver you have installed is set to use "Letter" paper size in the print driver properties.
  • You open Word's print menu to print a document with multiple pages.
  • You specify a paper size to be a size that is not the default paper size, for example “Executive.”
  • You also select n-up to print multiple pages per sheet.
  • You print the document using "Executive" and n-up.

In this scenario, you notice that the content on the print out does not line up correctly and may be cut off.

Cause

When printing with n-up, Microsoft Word will use what the default paper size is specified in the print driver's paper properties. For example, in the scenario above, since "Letter" paper size is specified in the print driver properties, Word will use this as the paper size instead of "Executive."

Workaround

Specify the paper size in the print driver properties. In the scenario above, if you need to use "Executive" paper size, specify "Executive" to be the paper size in the print driver's properties.
