You experience virtual machine replication performance degradation on a Windows Server 2012 R2-based Replica server if you enable additional recovery points

Symptoms

Consider the following scenario:
  • You use Hyper-V Replica to replicate virtual machines on a Windows Server 2012 R2-based Replica server.
  • You specify a folder on a data deduplication-enabled volume to store Replica files.
  • You select additional recovery points on the Configure Recovery History page.
In this scenario, you experience virtual machine replication performance degradation, and the value of Replication Health is not "Normal." Therefore, fewer virtual machines can be replicated, and only virtual machines that have low to medium workload can be replicated. Additionally, you may see frequent resynchronizations.

Workaround

To work around this issue, do not select additional recovery points when you configure recovery history if you use a data deduplication-enabled volume to store Replica files. If you already experience the issue, change the number of additional recovery points to 0 for virtual machines that have the Replica files stored on a data deduplication-enabled volume.
