Windows Phone SDK 8.0 installation is unsuccessful on a computer that is running a 64-bit version of Windows 8 or Windows 8.1


Symptoms

Consider the following scenarios in which you try to install the Windows Phone Software Development Kit (SDK) 8.0 on a computer that is running a 64-bit version of Windows 8 or Windows 8.1.

Scenario 1

When you use the installation DVD, the installation is unsuccessful and the product is only partially installed. Additionally, you receive the following error message:

A required certificate is not within its validity period when verifying against the current system clock or the timestamp in the signed file.

Scenario 2

When you use the web download, the bootstrapping application cannot download the Win8SharedSDKTools.msi file. Additionally, you receive the following error message:

Unable to locate package source.

Workaround

To work around this problem, follow these steps:

  1. Uninstall the partial installation of Windows Phone SDK 8.0.
  2. Take one of the following actions:

    Microsoft scanned these files for viruses. Microsoft used the most current virus-detection software that was available on the date that the files were posted. The files are stored on security-enhanced servers that help prevent any unauthorized changes to the files.
  3. Install the Windows Phone SDK 8.0 as you usually would.

Known issue with this workaround

If you try to repair the Windows Phone SDK 8.0 installation, the repair is unsuccessful. To repair the installation, we recommend that you uninstall the product and then reinstall it.
