Error message when you start a data deduplication optimization job for a large data volume in Windows Server 2012

Symptoms

Consider the following scenario:
  • You install the Data Deduplication file service on a Windows Server 2012-based computer.
  • You enable data deduplication on a large data volume that has a high data deduplication savings rate.
  • You create an optimization job, and then you start the job.
In this situation, the data deduplication optimization job fails. Additionally, you receive the following error message:

Error: Hotspot table is too small to hold all hotspots., 0x8056530c, Data deduplication encountered an unexpected error. Check the Data Deduplication Operational event log for more information.

Cause

This issue occurs because a hotspot table is not sized correctly on the large data volume.

Resolution

Hotfix information

The global version of this hotfix installs files that have the attributes that are listed in the following tables. The dates and the times for these files on your local computer are displayed in your local time together with your current daylight saving time (DST) bias. Additionally, the dates and the times may change when you perform certain operations on the files.
