Symptoms

When you attempt to upload a document to a shared folder on a server running SharePoint Team Services from Microsoft, you may receive the following or similar error message:

Cause

This behavior can occur when both of the following conditions are true:
  • The Allow anonymous upload to this directory check box on the General tab in the Document Library Properties dialog box is selected.
  • Some other setting on the General tab of the Document Library Properties dialog box have been changed and applied after anonymous upload permission was set.
When any settings on the General tab are changed and the OK or Apply buttons are clicked, if the Allow anonymous upload to this directory check box has not been selected since the dialog box has been opened, the permissions are set in the folder as if the check box was not selected.

Workaround

To work around this problem, follow these steps when you have to change any setting on the General tab in the Document Library Properties dialog box and keep anonymous uploading working:
  1. Start FrontPage and open your SharePoint team Web site.
  2. In the Folder list, right-click the shared folder, and then click Properties.
  3. Click to clear the Allow anonymous upload to this directory check box, make any other changes you want in the other check boxes, and click Apply.
  4. Click to select the Allow anonymous upload to this directory check box, and click OK.
