"Client authentication required" error message after you upgrade from Preview to RTM version of Visual Studio 2013

Symptoms

Consider the following scenario:
  • You install Microsoft Visual Studio 2013 Preview.
  • You start the program, and then you sign in.
  • You upgrade to the RTM version of Visual Studio 2013.
In this scenario, when you try to open the Visual Studio IDE, you receive the following error message:

TF400813 Resource not available for anonymous access. Client authentication required.

Cause

This problem occurs because the Visual Studio 2013 token cache is changing, and the cache is incompatible with the preview versions of Visual Studio 2013. To refresh the token, you have to reauthenticate.

Workaround

To work around this problem, follow these steps:
  1. On the Help menu, click Register Product.

    Note The Account Settings dialog box opens.
  2. Click Sign-out.
  3. After sign-out process is finished, click Sign in.
  4. Close the Account Settings dialog box.
