iSCSI Target resource dependency information

View products that this article applies to.

Summary

When installed in a cluster, the iSCSI Target service is dependent upon the physical disk resources backing the LUNs presented by the iSCSI Target.   This dependency relationship is by default an OR relationship.   This means that if one or more of the disk resources is available, then the iSCSI Target service can start.

More Information

If an I/O request is received for a VHDor VHDX-based iSCSI Virtual Disk hosted on a disk that is not yet online, the iSCSI Target will briefly hold the I/O to provide the disk an opportunity to complete the online process.  If the disk does not quickly come online, the target responds to the initiator with a SCSI status of BUSY, which is typically retryable in most initiator implementations.

For more information about the resource AND/OR relationships, please see the following article.

Note: Customization of the default AND/OR relationship with the iSCSI Target resource is not supported for production deployments. If you modify the default resource relationships for test purposes, you will need to confirm that your desired relationship exists after any cluster or target server configuration change (e.g. new iSCSIvirtual disks added/removed, etc.) because those relationships are rebuilt under certain circumstances and may reset to default.
