The bitmap image of a Store App is not displayed when the app is reactivated from suspension in Windows 8

View products that this article applies to.

Symptoms

In Windows 8, the status of a Store App changes from "running" to "suspended" when you switch from the app. For example, the status changes when you switch to another Store App or to the Windows Desktop. The status of the Store App reverts to "running" as soon as you switch back to the suspended app. When the status reverts to "running," all resources that are used by the Store App are restored. This includes the bitmap image or icon for the Store App.

However, a problem occurs if the Store App uses the WriteableBitmap class to display the bitmap image or icon for the Store App. In this case, the bitmap image or icon for the Store App is not restored.

Cause

This problem occurs because of an issue in the WriteableBitmap Class. All resources that are used by the Store App are saved to an internal resource when the app is suspended. The bitmap image or icon that is used in the WriteableBitmap Class is saved also. Resources are restored when you switch back to the Store App and the Store App is reactivated from suspension.

However, when this problem occurs, the restoration of the bitmap image or icon is not performed. Therefore, the bitmap image or icon that was displayed before the app was suspended is no longer displayed on-screen.
