Symptoms

On a Microsoft Windows 2000 server cluster that is running Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server, the following event may be logged continuously at the rate of one per minute:
Event Type: Error
Event Source: MSExchangeSA
Event Category: MAPI Session
Event ID: 9175
Description:

The MAPI call 'OpenMsgStore' failed with the following error: The attempt to log on to the Microsoft Exchange Server computer has failed. The MAPI provider failed. Microsoft Exchange Server Information Store ID no: 8004011d-0512-00000000

Cause

This behavior occurs because System Attendant attempts to open a MAPI session and log on to Exchange 2000 Server upon initialization. The existence of a computer account in the domain that matches the Exchange 2000 virtual server name causes the log on to not succeed, and causes System Attendant to generate the 9175 events.

Resolution

To resolve this behavior, open Active Directory Users and Computers and delete the computer account that corresponds to the Exchange 2000 virtual server name; this account is unnecessary.
