Symptoms

ExMerge 2000 fails and you may receive the following error message:
Error encountered getting mailbox information from the private information store database(s) on server 'ServerName'. Make sure you have adequate permissions on the Information Store object. Please refer to the 'Log Location' log file for more information.
In addition, the following output is reported in the Exmerge.log before the error message occurs:
Searching the Active Directory for mailboxes homed on the following databases:

List of stores in DN format

Found # mailboxes, in the Active Directory, homed on the specified databases
Error writing to file 'C:\WINNT\System32\MAPIsvc.inf'. (CAdminProfileRoutines::HackMapiSvcInfForSA)
Error finding default Exchange store(CMapiSession::GetMailboxesOnServer)

Cause

This issue can occur if the Messaging Application Programming Interface (MAPI) profile does not have full access to the MAPIsvc.inf file. If the MAPI profile cannot access this file, all MAPI logons fail.

Resolution

To resolve this issue if this server is located on a member server, make the account a Full Administrator account on the local computer:
  1. Right-click My Computer, and then click Manage.
  2. Browse to Local Users and Groups.
  3. Click the Administrators group, and then add the ExMerge account to that group.
  4. Log off, and then log on as the ExMerge account.
