Extended character is displayed incorrectly in a disclaimer in Lync 2013

Symptoms

Consider the following scenario:
  • You configure a disclaimer by using the Set-CsClientPolicy cmdlet in Lync Server Management Shell in a Microsoft Lync Server 2013 environment.
  • The disclaimer contains an extended character. For example, the disclaimer contains the character "é". 
  • A user joins an instant message conversation by using Lync 2013 in the environment. 
In this scenario, the extended character is displayed incorrectly in the disclaimer in the conversation. For example, "é" is displayed as "\'e9" or "\'e8".
