XADM: Event ID 1040 Is Written to the Application Log When the IMAP4 and POP3 Services Start

Symptoms

When you try to start the IMAP4 service or the POP3 service on an Exchange 2000 server, the services do not start, and you see the following events in the Application event log:

Cause

This problem can occur if Microsoft Site Server is also installed on the Exchange 2000 server.

Workaround

Stop the Microsoft Site Server service, and then start the IMAP4 and POP3 services.
