This article describes update 2881014 for Microsoft Excel 2013 and Office Home and Student 2013 RT that was released on June 10, 2014.

This update provides the latest fixes for Excel 2013. It includes stability and performance improvements. Please be aware that this update does not apply to Office 365 editions such as Office 365 Home.

Issues that the update resolves

  • Assume that you have multiple workbooks open in Excel 2013. When you close a workbook after editing, Excel 2013 can crash randomly.
  • When you try to drag and embed a worksheet in Excel 2013, Excel 2013 crashes intermittently.

Update information

This update applies to the Microsoft Installer (.msi)-based edition of Office 2013. It does not apply to Office 2013 Click-to-Run edition such as Microsoft Office 365 Home.

How to determine if my Office installation is Click-to-Run or MSI-based
  1. Start Excel 2013.
  2. On the File menu, click Account.
  3. For Office 2013 Click-to-Run installation, an Update Options item is displayed. For MSI-based installation, the Update Options item is not displayed.

How to uninstall this update
Windows 8
  1. Swipe in from the right edge of the screen, and then tap Search. If you are using a mouse, point to the lower-right corner of the screen, and then click Search.
  2. Type windows update, tap or click Settings, and then tap or click View installed updates in the search results.
  3. In the List of updates, locate and then tap or click update 2881014, and then tap or click Uninstall.
Windows 7
  1. Click Start, and then click Run.
  2. Type Appwiz.cpl, and then click OK.
  3. Click View installed updates.
  4. In the List of updates, locate and then click update 2881014, and then click Uninstall.
