Summary

This article describes how to use an existing database with the Database Interface Wizard from FrontPage 2002.

This example uses the Northwind sample database that is included with Office XP. The same steps apply to a database that is created automatically by using either FrontPage 2002 or FrontPage 2000.

Use an Existing Database with the Database Interface Wizard

If you already have a database in your Web, skip the first six steps.
  1. Open a Web in FrontPage 2002.
  2. Open a new page, and then click Save As on the File menu.
  3. Save this page as Sample.asp.
  4. With the insertion point in Sample.asp, point to Database on the Insert menu, and then click Results.
  5. In the Database Results Wizard, click Use a sample database connection (Northwind), and then click Next.
  6. In step 2 of the wizard, click Cancel.

You now have a folder called FPDB in your Web and a database inside that folder called Fpnwind.mdb. FrontPage automatically created a connection string to use in step 10.
  7. On the File menu, point to New, and then click Page or Web. In the task pane, click Web Site Templates under New from template.
  8. Click the Database Interface Wizard template.
  9. Select the Add to current Web check box, and then click OK.

NOTE: If you do not add this Web to the current Web, you cannot choose the correct database connection name in step 10.
  10. When the wizard starts, click Use an existing database connection, and then click Sample in the drop-down list.
  11. Click Next three times.
  12. Under Database Interface Pages, select the Database Editor, Results Page, and Submission Form check boxes.
  13. Click Next, and then choose either to use a password or not to use a password.
  14. Click Next and then Finish.
You should have an entire Sample_interface folder in your Web, which includes all of the pages that you need to view, edit, delete, and add to the database.

NOTE: For information about an issue with updating the database if the database was created by using a form in FrontPage 2000 or FrontPage 2002, please see the following Microsoft Knowledge Base article:
