Camera app preview may be reduced to 1/4 size after changing resolution or capture mode

Symptoms

Consider the following scenario:
  • You have a Windows 8 device that has an integrated webcam.
  • You are using the inbox Camera app to capture photos or videos with the integrated webcam.
  • While in the Camera app you change the photo or video resolution, or switch between Photo and Video mode.

In this scenario, after you have changed the photo/video resolution or switched between Photo and Video mode, the camera preview may be reduced to one quarter (1/4) of the screen. In addition, the preview may be garbled.

Workaround

Microsoft is aware of this issue and it will be corrected in a future update. To work around the issue, close and re-launch the Camera application. The preview will then return to normal.

More Information

Only some webcam devices exhibit this behavior. This issue only affects the way the preview is displayed and does not affect captured photos and videos.
