To have a server respond with a different host name in the
service banner, follow these steps:
1. | Start Exchange System Manager. |
2. | Expand the Administrative Groups object,
expand the <site name>
object, and then expand the Servers object. |
3. | Expand the server object that you want to host the extra
virtual servers, and then expand the Protocols
object. |
4. | Right-click SMTP, point to
New, and then click SMTP Virtual Server.

5. | Assign a name to the new SMTP virtual server, and then
assign it to a specific IP. |
6. | After the SMTP virtual server object is created,
right-click the object, and then click Properties. |
7. | Click the Delivery tab, and then click
Advanced. |
8. | Edit the fully qualified domain name (FQDN) to reflect the
host name that you want to appear in the service sign-on banner. |
9. | Right-click the new virtual server, click
Stop, and then restart it. |
10. | To test the new name, click Start, click
Run, and then in the Open box, type
telnet <IP address>
